With fewer trout options in Oregon after Oct 31st, the Fall River easily makes the top 5. Fishing has been good as of late and should continue to fish well from here on. Midge and Baetis patterns are?? really all you should worry about. But wait, a size 12 Griffith Gnat or a size 14 BWO won't git'er-done! ??Carry a broad selection of patterns in various stages ranging from size 18 to 26. It will make a long frustrating day if you don't.

Anything larger than a 4 weight should be left at home as delicate presentations in this gin clear Spring Creek are needed. A 2 or 3 weight will be best suited. Try Umpqua's 13 FT Spring Creek Leaders in 7X. They are super supple and will decrease your chances of micro drag. Should you still get refusals (and you will!) attach 2 feet of Frog Hair 8X tippet?Ķ. I know, it's a long way from the days of?? the 7 ?? foot 1x Salmonfly leaders you used in June, but Fall River fish are snobs!

Midge dries; size 20 Micro Midge in Black or Pearl, size 20-24 Miracle Midge, or Silvey's Hatching Midge in black are recommended. If you're going deep, avoid large indicators in loud colors such as orange and yellow and stick with white, or simply go "naked" without an indicator. Your bottom dwelling nymphs should again be small in stature and anything with rubber legs, flash back or white biots should be left behind. We recommend midge pupa in black like the V-rib midge or the Tailwater Tiny in size 18-22. We carry a Baetis nymph in size 18 with or without a

Please note that snow is in the 10 weather forecast, and a pair of rubber soled Korker Boots might be needed should there be snow on the ground. There's plenty of access along the Fall as well, but note that fishing below the Fall River Falls is closed for the year.

With a steep increase in flows last Saturday night and frigid air temperatures throughout the past week, the trout angler has had a difficult time catching fish. The CFS went from 4300 on the Madras gauge to 6100 in a matter of hours. Only during dusk did we see trout rising to the surface, and for only a 15-20 min window. Fish appeared to be keying in on larger brown Caddis in size 12-14's. However, flows have descended and are now...... Read More
