Fishing is good at Crane Prairie. The fish are almost all stacked into the channels where cool water can be found. Dry fly action is inconsistent; however, a terrestrial or small callibaetis can receive attention around dawn or dusk. We’ve moved towards fishing more chironomids and balanced leeches, they perform better in the channels. Callibaetis are still effective, size 18 has been working well. Dark assassins in size 16 or 18 have also been killing it. Damsels are best in shallower areas, although they still can receive some attention in the channels. Stripping leeches can be good, a sinking line will help out a lot. The forecast is still looking promising for some cooler temperatures. If this holds true and we receive some precipitation, then the lakes will see some much needed cooler water temperatures.
