The Crooked River has been fishing decent as the trout further acclimate to the winter flows. The wind and rain look to be dying down throughout the week, but it does get cooler as the week goes on. Remember the fish can see you even if you can’t see them, they’re very easy to spook in the low water. This weather will likely produce some good blue wing olive hatches, likely around midday. Midges on the surface or in the film could be a good strategy in the mornings or the evenings. Nymphing is a very similar story, baetis nymphs and midges are the go-to. Scuds and other slim small mayfly nymphs are also good for the nymph rig. If you find yourself only catching whitefish, raise your depth slightly, sometimes the rainbows want to feed a bit higher in the water than the whities. Best of luck at the Crooked this week.
