The Smith River just to the South of the Oregon Border and has also been fishing very good. The Smith River is the States fastest clearing river and has been in fishable condition all week long. The Smith had plenty of color early this week but now flows have dropped under the 9 foot level and water clarity has become very clear. The Smith River has been kicking out some trophy steelhead in the low twenty pound class this week. Several steelhead have come in from 16 to 20 plus pounds all week. Rain is needed here and it looks like a good river rise is forecasted for this weekend. Side drifting small brightly colored puffballs/baitbuttons tipped with roe has been the best bet here. Anglers drifting small brightly colored yarn balls have also done well. Anglers should always call ahead for current river conditions as they can change quickly here on the North coast.
