A Family Fishing Event is set for Saturday, April 29, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Middle Empire Lake as part of Coos Bay’s annual Family Fun Day.

Families compete a clinic to learn about fishing. Afterwards, kids can fish an enclosure in the lake that is stocked with 2,500 rainbow trout. ODFW provides loaner rods, reels and tackle.

Kids 11 and younger can fish for free while those 12 to 17 and adults need an Oregon angling license. A Youth License for 12 to 17-year-olds costs just $10 and is good for hunting, fishing, and shellfishing. Licenses are not for sale at this event. All State fishing regulations continue to apply.

A feature of the ODFW Outdoors Program, this free fishing event is designed to introduce kids and their families to fishing. ODFW has been partnering with the Bay Area Hospital’s Kids Hope Center to host the event during Coos Bay’s annual Family Fun Day.

Check ODFW’s website for a list of Family Fishing Events throughout the state.
