Water levels are high at this time, but with drier weather predicted the river should be in good shape soon. Although pressure is letting up, there is still good fishing to be had on the Nestucca. There are still hatchery and wild winter steelhead throughout the system, along with a few early summer steelhead. Float fishing jigs, beads, or bait, drift fishing, nymphing, and swinging flies or spinners are all good techniques. A few steelhead should be available in Three Rivers also.

No reports of spring Chinook yet, but there could be one any day now. The bay will be the most productive early in the season.

Anglers are reminded that the upper Nestucca River from Moon Creek (near Blaine) to Elk Creek, closed to steelhead fishing on April 1.
