We are going to have a trip getting underway (weather permitting of course) for five hours fishing and crabbing Saturday. Reservations can be made online only as the office is closed at this time. We still require masks on and offshore, social distancing and of course common courtesy and most of all Common Sense. Let's get through this!

It is with profound sorrow that we must inform you of the passing of our longtime friend and business partner, Lars Robison. Lars battled cancer in 2019, was declared in remission but has succumbed to complications associated with chemotherapy.

Lars was literally born into the charter industry in 1957 (his father Fred owned the Jimco Docks). At age 18 he was the youngest at the time to be issued a Coast Guard masters license. He then bought his first charter boat, the “AHI”. Later he bought the Samson, a boat built by Grandy Yachts of Seattle. He later purchased a 50 foot Delta hulled charter boat also christened Samson. Lars also fished Alaskan waters, fished Dungeness Crab in winter off the Oregon coast and ran charter boats in Hawaii for a period of time.

Lars had a strong sense of civic duty and loved his community. He served 25 years on the Depoe Bay Harbor Commission, a decade on Depoe Bay Near Shore Action Team, many years on ODFW’s Salmon Advisory Committee and volunteered with numerous fisheries committees, management meetings. He made his boat available for Experimental Fisheries Programs and research contracts with ODFW.

Boats were Lars's passion. All boats. He loved to study the designs and construction styles and techniques. He was a walking encyclopedia of maritime knowledge. He could identify a boat instantly, tell who the builder was, what its design and handling characteristics were. He and a brother restored two Century brand vintage mahogany speedboats. A pair of rowboats and a kayak filled out his collection.

Lars founded Dockside with Jim Tate forty one years ago and has been active in the business including owning and operating his own charter boat. Lars experience, knowledge, love of fishing and willingness to be involved made him respected by his peers and fisheries managers.

Forever in our hearts and minds Lars, we wish you fair winds and following seas.

Lars Robison December 28, 1957-November 29, 2020
