Includes updates to fishing, hunting, crabbing, clamming, and wildlife viewing.

SODFW is pausing updates on parts of the Recreation Report while we revamp it. Look for a new and improved Recreation Report to launch later this year. In the meantime, we'll be updating the Weekend's Best Bets, trout stocking, and some of our frequently updated fishing zone reports.

The adage, it always rains on Halloween,

will likely hold true this year with a strong shift into more familiar autumn weather patterns. If you’ve been focusing on the bays and estuaries for Chinook and coho, it’s a good time to think about exploring further upstream. The wet and stormy weather should be good for deer hunters looking to find deer moving about. Ocean waters are closed for sport crabbing Oct. 16 – Nov. 30, but bays, estuaries, beaches, tide pool, piers and jetties all remain open and a good option for getting your Dungeness crab. Trout fishing will close in many areas on October 31, but there are still great opportunities for trout fishing, especially in Southwest Oregon, where trophy trout were recently stocked. Don’t forget about Chasing Summer on the East side, where water temperatures take a little longer to cool. There are reports of good fishing for Tiger Muskie at Phillips Reservoir and for smallmouth and crappie in the Snake Zone.

Deer hunting continues in western Oregon

Some forecasted rain and cooler temperatures can result in more movement and higher success.

It is your last chance for trout in some rivers,

as many rivers close Oct. 31 to protect spawning and over-wintering fish.

Hunter Education:

Spots are open in upcoming waterfowl workshops Oct. 31 at Denman Wildlife Area in Central Point and Nov. 7 in Bend. Sign up now
