Greetings, Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia & Willamette River is the place to be.

East winds in the Gorge has limited the effort of sport fishers. Calm days in the gorge have produced good numbers of Sturgeon. Water temp is dropping and the bite is lighter every day. Sand Shrimp-Smelt & Squid are the bait of choice. I really encourage fishing light rods-Smaller pound test as well as downsizing baits. Soft biters require a sensitive rod and an angler on top of his game. These fish are here so put the hook through their lips as soon as he moves your bait.

Lots of us will be running tops on our boats so please be careful as winds push your boat more with tops and visibility is limited as well. Make your boat winter ready-check battery-be sure everything works so you can enjoy catching the Columbia's most abundant fish. ?Į
