Howard Prairie has started to fill with recent rain and snow and is at 7 percent full. We don’t have any recent reports from Howard, but many of the high mountain lakes are starting to freeze.
Deeper water is available at various points near the dam, but cool water from Grizzly Creek at the upper end of the reservoir or springs near Red Rocks may provide some opportunity once ice is solid enough to walk on.
