Fishing is generally best when flows are below 3,000 cfs. Currently flows are around 2,500 cfs at the Waterloo gauge as of May 22. Summer steelhead numbers are still low and it may be another slow return year for these fish. About 40 fish have made it to Foster so far.

However, Willamette Falls counts are indicating a good spring Chinook run. So far over 6,000 adults have entered the upper Willamette basin as of May 20, with many of these fish destined for the South Santiam.

Anglers are reminded that only fin-clipped trout may be kept.
