McKenzie River Fish Report 07-02-07

McKenzie River - Coburg, OR

River level @Vida 1.34ft.  2,370 cfs. water temp 52.3 degrees.  Fishing has been  Fair-Good in the lower river below Leaburg Dam down to Hayden Bridge.     Hatches of midges, yellow sallies, Little Olive Stones, caddis, pale morning duns and some blue-winged olives will be present for the month of July.  Nymph fishing has been the ticket during the day with most of the surface activity in the evening.   Red Fox Squirrel nymph with a BH Flashback Pheasant Tail nymph or a BH Prince as the dropper fly.

Suggested Trout patterns for the month of July:   Surface Hatches:   Green Drakes (upper river above Leaburg Dam),  Little Yellow Stones, Little Olive Stones,  and Pale Morning Duns.

Best surface patterns:   Large Yellow Comparadun  #12, Brown Elk Hair Caddis #12-14,  Peacock Caddis #12-16,  Olive Stimulators #14, Yellow Stimulators #14.

Best nymph patterns:  BH Fox Squirrel nymphs 12-14, GB Flashback Pheasant Tail Nymphs #14-18,  Yellow soft hackle #12-14, Green bodied soft hackle #12-14,  GB FB Hare's Ear Nymph #10-14, Prince Nymphs #12-18, Zug Bug #12-16, Cased Caddis#14-16,  Golden Stones #6-10
