Was last stocked the week of May 20 with 5,173 legal-size rainbow trout. Spring Chinook fishing was really heating up leading into the Free Fishing Weekend on June 1-2. River levels have remained consistent and fishing should remain productive.

All non-adipose fin-clipped trout must be released unharmed. Check page 46 of the 2018 Sport Fishing Regulations for bait restrictions in the segment you plan to fish. Beginning Nov. 1, anglers may only use lures and artificial flies.

Fishing continues to be pretty good for summer steelhead downstream of Leaburg Dam. No new fish were captured at McKenzie Hatchery this week, so the total return to the hatchery this year stands at 4,377 spring Chinook and 216 summer steelhead for the year.

The lower McKenzie River is open to retention of adipose fin-clipped salmon and steelhead and non-adipose fin-clipped steelhead greater than 24-inches long. A Columbia River Basin Endorsement is required for anglers targeting salmon and steelhead in the McKenzie.
